You don’t have to ride to get involved in the most prestigious road cycling event in Australia! We’re looking for volunteers to play a crucial role in the successful running of the event, and with a variety of roles available across the village and the course there is something to suit everyone.

What’s new?

In the 2018 L’Étape Australia edition some of the volunteers asked for more support from the organization. This year the “Volunteer Manager” role will be reinforced. This person will be available to support you and your needs, and will be taking care of you at any time.

What roles are available?

Roles are split into two areas – those based in the village and those out on the course.

  • L’Étape Australia Village:
    • Registration Pack Collection (Fri only)
    • T-shirt Collection (Fri only)
    • Information Booth (Fri & Sat)
    • Photobooth Assistant (Fri & Sat)
    • Bike Racking (Fri & Sat)
    • Flow Management (Fri & Sat)
    • Volunteer Area Manager (Fri & Sat)
    • Rider Backpack Drop (Sat only)
    • Medal Distribution (Sat only)
  • L’Étape Australia Race Course (including start/finish area) – These roles are only available on Saturday.
    • Convoy Parking
    • Start Line
    • Start Waves Access Management
    • Food & Drink Zones
    • Traffic Marshall
    • Finish Line Flow Management
    • Convoy Evacuation

When you register you will be asked to indicate your preferred role and we will do our best to accommodate your preference.

What do I get in return for volunteering?

All volunteers will be given a L’Étape Australia volunteer t-shirt and cap – these are to be worn during your shift and can be kept as a momento. It will be a busy day, so lunch will be provided and water and snacks will also be available throughout the day to keep you going.

To say thank you for all the hard work you put in, we will be hosting an exclusive volunteer BBQ in the evening of the event where you will meet personally our Ambassadors: Amanda Spratt (Australian professional rider) and Esteban Chaves (Colombian professional rider). This is a great opportunity to enjoy that post-event buzz with your fellow volunteers.

How long will my shift be?

The average shift time is 6 hours, however shifts do vary in length depending on the role. Your role will be assigned in the couple of weeks leading up to the event and you will then receive a comprehensive email with all the information you need for the event, including shift times.

Is there a minimum age?

Volunteers must be 14 or older at the time of the event. All volunteers that are under the age of 18 will need permission from a parent/guardian. If you are interested in volunteering and will be 18 or under on 28th November/30th November 2019, please get in touch with us by emailing before signing up.
